O Merciful Death (Sonnet)

In the warmth of night I give you my cries,
pray you help chill my blood and numb my skin,
with your white hands wipe clean my burning eyes,
with your breath save my body from within.

The world once glowed with beauty and light.
I saw the world through the eyes of a god.
The wonders of life and warmth shone bright.
Love steered my path like the iron rod.

Now scalding silence tears at my ears
and emptiness boils away my blood.
Abandoned, I am left to hold our love dear,
but without your silver lips I never would.

The fire of love burns all to the ground
on th'embers I call for death, take me now.
